Code Foils - S, R & X? Which to choose?

Code Foils - The high performance foil brand we all know and love from Australia. They make some incredible foils and some of the best on the market right now. For the first 2-3 years they only had 2 ranges in the brand, the surfy-all round style of the S, and the faster, higher aspect R, but now there is a new kid on the block - The X.

The S is a strong favourite for the Surf and All round rider, being super versatile and useable for all levels of riding and all disciplines.

The R known for it's high performance in downwinding and racing with the 860R being the winning foil for James Casey in the 2023 Molokai to Oahu.

But new for late 2025 came the X from Code. Not a replacement of any in the brand but an addition, and all I can say is it's amazing. The new X is a lower aspect brother of the S, with a roll like no other and handles tip breaches effortlessly. It has given me the confidence to push harder in the turns at high speed knowing the foil will handle it. Now when I go back to the S series it gives me the confidence to push harder. Whether it is Wing Foiling in the waves, or Prone Foiling in the surf the X is unmatched in my opinion. It really accelerates your riding.

With that being said, if pumping back out to link endless waves and maximise your time on foil is your thing then the X is going to make that slightly harder. With a lower aspect ratio the smaller sizes do not pump like the S, but it is not far off and with improved technique like staying higher on the mast and speed.

So which foil is for me?

The S Series - The surfy, mid-aspect, all rounder for everyone. A very user friendly foil that does every discipline well, whether you're Wing Foiling, Parawinging, SUP Foiling in surf or Prone Foiling in waves, personally I love the S Series. It's super fun and playful to Parawing, the 850S is a personal favourite of mine to Parawing with, and the 980S is the best on those small summer prone days. The S really is the Swiss Army Knife of foiling.

The R Series - The high aspect, pump and speed machine. The Downwind master when you are chasing that PB or linking that next bump. The 960R is my lightwind 'get up in anything' foil I always have in my back pocket on race day. I've recently got my hands on a 770R which I was pleasantly surprised recently how fun it was to Prone foil. I'm really looking forward to getting the 770R in the bumps the next windy forecast.

The X Series - Lowest aspect foil in the range and a hot favourite for the Surf foilers, the roll is incredible and it gives you a feel to push every turn harder and faster. It really improved my riding personally. The 810X is a strong favourite for me.
